Training Books
I also review dog Obedience Training books on other pages in this website and some of those books cover the potty training issue also. Since potty training is such a big issue for new dog owners, I have made a Potty Training Book Rating Scale just for the potty training issue. I apply it to any of the books that cover the potty training issue, even the obedience training books with a potty training section. Below are reviews of the potty training books. There are also links to expanded reviews that give more information on the book yet. You may need some time to think about this choice, so you can easily come back later to review the information again by adding this page to your favorites. |

Puppy Housetraining: The Ultimate
Guide
This book lives up to its title of "The Ultimate Guide." No other book covers the potty training issue like this one does. The author gives step by step guides on every issue. All of the potty training books emphasize the need for a dog crate to be successful quickly with potty training. This book covers that issue better than any of the others. This is my number 1 recommendation. The author's website is not as flashy, but this book is the best. Extras: Value: ««««« Current Price $19.95

Happy Housetraining
Of the books on potty training a dog, this is also among the best of the lot I have seen. The author covers the topic thoroughly and addresses the issues. Starting with the reasons that crate training is part of successful potty training, to the steps of paper training and when to choose paper training, to what to feed your dog and when – under the premise that “what goes in – must come out." He is both practical and mildly humorous and provides you with potty training "schedules" that will fit most lifestyles. This book gets my number 2 recommendation. It is a little weaker in several of the topic areas and it does not cover the leash and collar issues at all. Extras:

Potty Professor This book is another single issue program. If potty training is your only issue with your dog, the choices above are probably a better one for you, since they cover more and cost about the same. Value: «« Current Price $17.77 See Potty Training Rating: 16 out of 39

How to Potty Train Your Puppy
in 7 Days This book is also a single issue program. It has been heavily marketed and sells very well. This book covers all the issues of successful potty training, but not in a complete manner, so there is some "reading between the lines" required. The author focuses on getting the dog owner in the right frame of mind for the potty training process, which is an important aspect. He covers the crate training topic, but doesn't clearly explain why. His emphasis is on positive reinforcement which is included in all the books. Puppy Housetraining: The Ultimate Guide is a better choice if potty training is your only issue with your dog. Value: « Current Price $19.95 See Potty Training Rating: 7 out of 39
